CODE Quartet is a Montreal-based collective
of four of Canada’s leading jazz composers
and improvisers, bringing together individual
virtuosity and deeply collaborative
musicianship. Formed in 2017, the ensemble
features Lex French, Christine Jensen, Adrian
Vedady, and Jim Doxas.
Rooted in the chordless quartet tradition
popularized by Ornette Coleman, the group
creates a transparent and flexible sonic space
where each voice carries equal weight. This
approach fosters a highly interactive musical
language in which composition and
improvisation are seamlessly intertwined, and
roles between lead and accompaniment
constantly shift.
