Benjamin Deschamps – No Codes

No Codes is a Montreal-based jazz collective led by alto saxophonist Benjamin Deschamps, featuring Frank Lozano (tenor saxophone), Sébastien Pellerin (double bass), and Louis-Vincent Hamel (drums). Known for the absence of a harmonic instrument, the ensemble places improvisation, interaction, and spontaneous musical dialogue at the core of its sound, creating a raw and highly dynamic listening experience.
After the success of their self-titled debut album released in 2018, No Codes returned with renewed energy with Usual Suspects, launched in November 2024. This latest release showcases a bold and adventurous musical vision, blending bebop, free jazz, contemporary and classical influences, world music, and bursts of punk and metal energy. The result is a powerful, unpredictable, and deeply expressive music that constantly pushes stylistic boundaries.
Celebrated with a cross-Canada tour, Usual Suspects further confirmed No Codes as one of the most distinctive and creative ensembles on today’s jazz scene, captivating audiences with its intensity, originality, and fearless approach to collective improvisation.
