Canadian vocalist and touring artist Angela Verbrugge won recognition as ‘best female jazz vocalist’ in the 2021 JazzTimes Readers’ Poll. Her work as a lyricist has been heralded by JazzWax, JazzLives, JazzWeekly, Jersey Jazz, as well as many international jazz blogs and her songs have been featured on JAZZIZ. She has recorded in New York with such artists as Cameron Brown, and in Vancouver with Miles Black. Her working bands have included musicians such as Ray Gallon, Neil Swainson, and Terry Clarke. All twelve songs on her new album feature her lyrics to new or existing jazz compositions by modern-day composers. Her vision is to create a new vocal jazz repertoire by collaborating with composers who write innovative, catchy melodies in the style of the classic jazz standards. Angela’s style takes inspiration from vintage musicals, the swing era, blues, and bebop.
